“We are building a team.”The declaration found on the official project web page.
GameStop (GME) has quietly unveiled a new web portal for a non-fungible token (NFT) platform.
Details about the project are scant – however, it appears that gaming retailer GameStop is planning to use the Ethereum (ETH) network as the technology base to build an NFT platform of their own with an independent marketplace.
The decision to move into the NFT market comes at an intriguing time in the eyes of quite a few blockchain investors.
Even though NFTs have become more popular across the digital world, the value of daily sales has seen a tremendous slump in recent months, with the declines in daily and total sales figures coinciding with the brief crash of Bitcoin (BTC) and the cryptocurrency markets at large.
The Online GameStop NFT Platform Hype Online
The rumored project’s smart contract code declares “Game On Anon” and links to GameStop’s NFT page, indicating that the potential GameStop-released NFTs will utilize the Ethereum ERC-721 standard. The code also points to a dedicated token with the ticker symbol GME.
“We welcome exceptional engineers (solidity, react, python), designers, gamers, marketers, and community leaders. If you want to join our team, send your profile or something you’ve built to: [email protected].”
The exact scope of the project is unclear, though prominently featured on the page is a link to an ETH address, indicating that GameStop’s team will use Ethereum as a technology base.
Despite clearly launching an online hype campaign, no other details could be found on the page regarding the project itself – apart from the launch of the official website, GME has not yet made an official public announcement regarding the platform.
As for the intended audience for whatever NFT offering emerges from GameStop’s team, an animated image on the page states:
“Power to the players. Power to the creators. Power to the collectors.”
