Various rumors and leaks regarding the upcoming Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game have circulated for a while now despite developers at Rockstar Games having yet to officially announce the highly anticipated follow-up to critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto V.
Grand Theft Auto: Bitcoin?
The latest leak saw the light of day in a recent post via Twitter. The post claims that players will earn cryptocurrency in-game – a pretty big deal for the crypto-markets in general if the claim turns out to be true.
Allegedly, players will earn a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin (BTC), albeit fictional, throughout the game’s campaign, which will fluctuate in price based on an in-game market, much like the stock markets introduced with the series’ previous installment.
Unfortunately, however compelling, this information is still just a rumor – keep in mind that there is no way to confirm its accuracy until the developers at Rockstar Games comment on it themselves.
The Tom Henderson Twitter Leak
“I heard recently that in GTA 6, some missions (will) reward you in bitcoin instead of cash for completing some missions. The stock market feature will return with the addition of a broker for different cryptocurrencies. If GTA 6 incorporates this right, it is huge for crypto,” Tom Henderson via Twitter, June 3rd.
The leak comes from a reputable leaker Tom Henderson via his Twitter account. Tom Henderson is well known for leaking news regarding the Battlefield series but says this time around that they talked to someone familiar with the new Grand Theft Auto.
Henderson has been right about many leaks before, however, so it could very well be accurate. Fans will only know for sure, though, once Rockstar Games officially announces Grand Theft Auto 6.
If cryptocurrency does make its way into the next Grand Theft Auto game, it could be a game-changing (no pun intended) mechanic.
As with each previous iteration of the beloved series, there have been many rumors regarding the highly anticipated game – this can make it difficult to parse out those that are most likely true. Thus, for now, it stays in the rumor mill.
However, many hope to see the new GTA game at this year’s E3 conference, so hopefully, fans will not have too much longer to wait until they get an official word from the developers at Rockstar Games.
What do you think about the inclusion of crypto as an in-game currency: will this help propel BTC and other digital assets into the spotlight for longer than fifteen minutes? Or will it be another flash-in-the-pan moment should it come to fruition?
At this point, it is anybody’s guess, and ultimately only time will tell – after all, nobody can predict the future!
